MULTI-FORMAT BOOK SHELVING, 2016

For bespoke fit-outs, off-the-shelf book-shelving proves tiresome.

This unit accommodates books of variable format.

Design & build to measure also saves finding more & more capital to invest in ever-bigger spaces !

CRITTALL DISPLAY CABINET, 1982

The famous British manufacturer of steel windows still exists and at the time continued to supply galvanized “Georgian” model frames for single glazing.

My idea was to order panels corresponding to French window dimensions (opening and fixed lights) and have them set in a made-to-measure angle-iron frame. All elements individually powder-coated or with galvanized finish.

Now well-nigh impossible, in those days one could still find inner-city metalworkers prepared to make one-off pieces at reasonable cost.

Proposed to Tommy ROBERTS (Practical Styling) at the time, but declined probably for cost reasons, 40 years later this sort of hybrid aesthetic seems to making a come-back, thanks to the likes of Marcel WANDERS.
