GIRTH @ Roccabianca

Castello di Roccabianca (PR), 14.07.2017 / 06.12.2017

I am very grateful to Stefania GALLANI for inviting the architect Raffaella CERRI and her son Marco SCALTRITI, to the vernissage in the family business’ Gallani Arredamenti showroom, event which launched the pilgrimage, still incomplete, of the Asiatic Blue and American Cherry exemplar of GIRTH un tavolo per gente di spessore.

In conceiving GIRTH I had in mind bare and ample locations, in which such an object would acquire in space another aspect aspect, somewhat imposing, where design pursuing ‘airiness’ — however and valid and attractive that itself may be — is often is unable to weigh in the balance. In reality it’s a matter of complementing the Architecture, that is to say, finding in the artifact a metaphorical and mnemotechnic significance — bordering even on the archetype — rather than the banal functionality of ‘light’ everyday furnishings. Hence the full title :  un  tavolo  per  gente  di  spessore.

To the SCALTRITI family, proprietors of Castello di Roccabianca and involved in the promotion of local culture, goes my profound gratitude for their welcome, its presence at the annual festival Culatello e Jazz and the opportunity to have the table photographed in such an exceptional place.

Photographed in the Castello’s vast open loggia on 6th December, the table was re-assembled on the 7th December in the Barchesse (converted former dependences) of the Palladian Villa Emo at Fanzolo di Vedelago (TV).
