Sideboard Joinery, Paris

It took us some eight years, from commencement of building works, to find the time and money to complete this essential item of storage, dimensioned to house a collection of vinyl LP’s in the pilaster elements (presently full of glasses and crockery), atop a marble side-board and concealed masonry jambages.

Shelves, lower right, dissimulate the radiator ; doors lower left, the hi-fi unit. The drawers contain silverware, and integrate oak boards, extending the serving area when open, while the lower central bay houses a drinks cabinet. Excepting the lower panes in opaque glass, the inter-columnia above are mirrored.

The drawing, traced in black and blue roller-ball pen on layout paper, served to ‘clinch’ the design, before producing dimensioned diagrams of the panel construction.

Recently the scheme, executed in black-stained timber, has been completed by similarly-tinted furniture, a table with nesting chairs.
